Let’s talk about Aloe!
Most of you are probably familiar with the artificially-coloured green goop that you buy in a plastic container when you get a sun burn. But, oh baby, we can do much better than that.
I bought an Aloe Vera plant for super cheap at my local grocery store after taking an Herbal Medicine class. My Herbal teacher said that “everyone should have an Aloe Vera plant in their homes” because they are so easy to grow and so versatile. Aloe is full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, and is super anti-inflammatory. These are all the great qualities that help your sunburns! But you can use Aloe for so much more.
Ways to use Aloe:
- Face and Hair Masque
- My favourite simple use of Aloe is to just bring it in the shower with me! I open up a leaf (usually just rip it with my nails) and scoop out all of the gooey insides. I then rub it in my hair and on my face (and sometimes the rest of my body) for a super simple duo hair and face masque! Leave it on for about 5 minutes and you’ll feel super soft and soothed. It’s also great for tightening the skin and reducing the occurrence of the odd pimple.
- Body Scrub
- Mix together an organic salt skin scrub using two parts sea salt, one part of aloe vera, one part of coconut oil and a tiny bit of honey!
- Frozen Aloe cubes
- Scoop some aloe from the plant and simply freeze it in an icecube tray and freeze! Pop one out and rub it on your skin. It is great for burns and cooling sensitive skin.
- Add to smoothies
- Did you know you can also eat Aloe?? You can find Aloe juice at many stores, but you can aloe add the goopy insides to your smoothies! It helps with digestion, clearing skin, liver function, as well as being super hydrating and alkaline.
Grab an Aloe Vera plant for yourself and try some of these out!! What’s your favourite way to use Aloe? Let me know!
