All about Blueland
Blueland is an eco-friendly cleaning brand that provides sustainable cleaning and personal care products made from plant-based and planet-friendly ingredients. Their mission is to make it easy to be eco with innovative products in reusable packaging that are convenient, effective and affordable. The company is US-based but also ships to Canada (where I am located).
Trying out Blueland Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
As someone who passionately cares about reducing our use of single-use plastics, I was curious to try some of the products from Blueland — I love their concept of using reusable bottles and concentrated cleanser tablets. So they sent me their Clean Essentials starter kit to try out and review.
The Clean Essentials starter kit includes a refillable plastic bottle and a tablet for each of the following products:
Hand Soap, Multi-Surface Cleaner, Bathroom Cleaner, and Glass + Mirror Cleaner
Overall, I am a big fan of their sustainable packaging, reusable bottles and I found that the products work well for me. However, I will break it all down further below.
What makes Blueland sustainable?
One of the main ways Blueland’s products are sustainable is through its reusable bottles. Rather than buying your cleaning products in a disposable/recyclable bottle each time, you receive one bottle for each type of cleaning product (bathroom cleaner, glass cleaner, etc.). Then you just fill up your bottle with water, add in the tablet of concentrated cleanser, let it dissolve, and you have a full bottle of cleanser ready to use! It just makes sense. Then when you need a refill, you just purchase more of the tablets, which get mailed in little compostable packs. The shipping materials are also 100% recyclable — they even use paper-based tape and water-based inks.
In fact, the Blueland website notes that “Our products have helped to eliminate over 1 billion single-use plastic bottles from landfills and oceans since 2019“.
Do the products work?
I found that the Blueland products worked very well! The kitchen cleanser left my counters crumb-free and smelling fresh, the glass cleaner left my glass without streaks, and the multi-surface cleanser did just that — cleaned multiple surfaces very well! I did find the foaming hand soap to be a bit watery, but this did not negatively affect the functionality of the product — it was just a bit different than soaps I am accustomed to.
Price, my overall thoughts & how to try them for yourself
The Clean Essentials starter kit that I received retails for $39 USD. It includes 3 cleaning products and a hand soap. I think it is a great price, considering how affordable the refills are, at $2.25 USD per tablet. This price is MUCH more affordable than purchasing cleaning products at a store. The products are even cheaper if you sign up for a subscription, so you never run out of the tablets.
Overall, I am a big fan of Blueland’s cleaning products. I look forward to exploring their other product lines, such as their laundry items, toilet cleaners and personal care items (like face and body wash).
