Trying out Tru Earth Laundry Strips
I was recently sent some of the Tru Earth laundry strips to try and review. They are advertised as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional laundry detergent and let me tell you, I saw the ads everywhere! As I am someone always looking for simple ways to reduce my waste, I was definitely intrigued. And as you all probably know, I love to promote businesses that are making a positive impact — whether that be for our health or for our environment.

All about Tru Earth Laundry Strips
Tru Earth laundry strips are an eco-friendly laundry detergent option based out of British Columbia (love to support Canadian!). Rather than liquid, powder, or pod-form detergent, this laundry detergent comes as a tiny, pre-measured strip of liquidless laundry detergent that you just toss in the wash. Besides being eco-friendly, Tru Earth laundry strips are hypoallergenic and certified free of parabens, phosphates, added dyes, chlorine, and animal-based ingredients. They’re also virtually mess-free. Sounds great to me!
The detergent strips come in three varieties/scents: Fresh Linen, Baby, and Fragrance Free. On their website, they are priced at $19.95 for 32 loads of laundry. However, if you subscribe to getting them delivered (every 1, 2, or 3 months) you save 35%, making it $12.95 for 32 loads. There’s also no contracts and free shipping. I’ll speak more about this below.
What makes Tru Earth eco-friendly?
Tru Earth’s laundry strips are readily biodegradable and the packaging is 100% plastic free.
Their motto is “saving the planet one load at a time”, which I love. One way Tru Earth is helping to save the planet is through reduced transportation.
The company notes that transportation fuel consumption and global-warming carbon emissions are reduced by 94% when comparing Tru Earth to today’s leading-brand liquid and powder detergent. This is due to the strip’s lightweight, plastic-free packaging.
Another way the laundry strips benefit the environment is through the reduction of plastic packaging. The company states that if everyone switched to Tru Earth Eco-Strips, we would annually eliminate one billion plastic jugs, saving 700 million from going to landfills. It would also save the truck fuel and CO2 equivalent to taking 27 million cars off the road for a day (or planting nine million trees).
I thought it was a no-brainer to try the strips out after I read these stats.
Do they work?
I have used Tru Earth strips for four loads of laundry now and, honestly, I am impressed. My clothes came out smelling fresh and clean. We currently live in an apartment building with shared laundry three flights of stairs down, so I really enjoyed how light-weight the strips were. Lugging a jug of detergent down three flights of stairs is never fun.
My overall thoughts
Overall, I love this company’s ethics and, to me, the product works really well! I think that it is a great eco-friendly alternative to conventional liquid or powdered laundry detergent.
I think it is important to note that I found the Fresh Linen strips to have a very strong (but fresh) scent in the packaging. However, the scent wasn’t overly strong in the wash. So if you are sensitive to scents, I would advise to choose the Fragrance-Free option.
In terms of price, I think that without a discount, the laundry strips are quite expensive. However, I think they are definitely worth checking out if you can get a deal (such as the 35% off I mentioned above)!

**Update after a few months of using**. I am still loving these laundry strips. I am still surprised at how well they work and how long they have lasted me. Honestly, my favourite thing about them is still how small and lightweight they are. I tried another liquid laundry detergent recently and I forgot how messy and bulky they are. Tru Earth also offers bundles, which I really recommend trying out for some savings. Click here for more info on the bundles!
